We have some exciting news to share that has brought an abundance of joy, chaos, and craziness to our household—Welcoming Titan and Storm, Our New Puppies! With two older dogs already in the family, our decision to bring these energetic bundles of fur into our lives has been nothing short of an adventure.
A Loving Home for All Ages
Our dog family began with Maui, our beloved 9-year-old rescue chihuahua mix. He is an absolute lover. He loves anybody and everybody that comes into our house. Belle, our beautiful 3-year-old rescue, husky/mastiff mix (Or so we were told. She looks more like a husky/great pyrenees) sheds more hair than any creature we've ever heard of. We promise you she will fill up your vacuum on a daily basis, but she loves all of her people and has been an amazing companion for our little girls. Brooklynn really wanted a new puppy "For Christmas" so we decided to fulfill our little girls' wish of getting their own puppies.
Early Christmas Surprises
We surprised our daughters with the early present of Titan (Male puppy) and Storm (Female puppy). The puppies are littermates. The girls' eyes lit up with joy and excitement as they welcomed these two siblings into their hearts. It has been a steep learning curve for the girls with BIG puppies in the house. Trying to teach the girls how to be firm and authoritative with the puppies when they want them to get down or out of their faces. Originally, the little girls would just squeal and run away or squeal and fall into the fetal position on the floor. We have made great progress! The girls now say "No" firmly instead of squealing when the puppies are loving on them a little too roughly or trying to steal their snacks.
Meet Titan and Storm
At twelve weeks old, Titan is already a strapping young man. He is a 36-pound pup. Storm is our energetic and athletic little girl. She is an equally healthy 28-pound pup. These two puppies are a mix of Bull Mastiff, Boerboel, Cane Corso, and French Mastiff. With the right training, nurturing, socialization, environment, and nutrition, they are showing promise of growing into very strong and loyal companions and protectors.
Challenges and Joys
Raising puppies always comes with its fair share of challenges. Raising BIG puppies adds another element to that. Housebreaking (Our carpet cleaner has been put through the ringer, but it has been absolutely amazing for keeping the puppy pee smell out of the house), training them not to jump on the girls or chew on them, training them to listen to all of the people in the house, and training them to only chew on their bones and toys instead of the furniture or the girls' toys. Our newest challenge has been trying to teach Storm to not try and jump up onto the kitchen counter or the dinner table.
The happiness and joys they bring into our lives far outweigh any difficulties. Their energy, playfulness, and affection have enriched our lives in countless ways. We still look at each other often and ask if we were crazy for bring two giant balls of destruction into our lives. We're pretty sure the answer is "Yes" we are crazy, but maybe the good kind of crazy?
Guardians in the Making
Beyond being loving additions to our family, Titan and Storm are showing promising signs of becoming excellent guard dogs for our home and property. We believe that their protective instincts and massive size combined with their love and adoration for our family, will make them the perfect addition to our family.
