Mom Blog | Make All the Lists

Updated: Oct 25, 2023

Normally after the girls go to bed, I spend a little time cleaning up whatever didn’t get cleaned up before bed. I fold the blankets on the couch, put away the baby dolls left on the floor, clean up the kitchen table and counters. Tonight, I sat down and started typing a list. I decided to make a list for myself of things to post about. Mitchell and I were talking earlier about being more active and sharing our lives with you more than just when we make a blog post.

I am a list maker. At any given time, I have 3 to 10 different lists typed, written or just bouncing around in my head. I make lists for groceries, things I need to do short term, things to do in the next week, appointments, Christmas presents bought, birthdays etc. There’re always multiple somethings.

As I was making this particular list, Mitchell asked me what I was working on. I told him I was coming up with ideas for fun Instagram posts. He kissed my head and said he loves that I am so organized. I replied saying that I do try to be even though it doesn't always work. He said it’s just one of the things he loves about me. Honestly, I had no idea he even noticed most of the time.

I know that lists help keep people organized. That’s kinda the point, right? But I have never thought about them that way for me. Yes, they help keep me organized. But also, I find writing, re writing, re organizing and color coding a list relaxing. It’s almost like an anxious tick. Sometimes that list overwhelms me because well let’s be honest, there are never enough hours in a day to get through a mom’s To Do list. But crossing things off that list and then rewriting it for the next day just feels good.

Anyone else feel this way? What lists do you currently have?

Lists can be super helpful! I have have a couple pads on the fridge for lists and also will make random ones in journals I keep throughout the house. It definitely helps keep me organized and sort out the often jumbled thoughts in my mom-brain.

I love a good list! I have a list of bigger “to-do’s“ on the fridge, a “he/she” list to help keep track of some of the bigger things my husband and I need to do. Most of the time my lists stay on my phone. I like to write out lists of things I need to remember to bring with me or lists of things I need to get done.

For me, a list helps clear the things out of my head. If I have something coming up, writing it out let’s me sleep. I often try to keep my daily to- do list attainable so that I feel more accomplished and less defeated by the list.
