We have been a little MIA here the last couple weeks. I have not been feeling the greatest(between the colds, flu, and stomach bug) and have been busy busy.
We have processed all of our meat chickens and now have a couple very full freezers! Mitchell and Brooklynn did some great bonding and work together to get all of the chickens taken care of. Brooklynn learned some very important lessons about anatomy and the function of certain organs during the cleaning. She had an unfortunate mishap with a bile duct popping on her. It didn't deter her from being willing to continue helping.
Brooklynn has shown great determination to learn and get better at basketball. She practices every chance she gets. Last weekend that showed in her game. She played better than she has before. While her team still ended up posing by a basket right at the end of the game, they played hard and she definitely showed much improvement. We are very proud of her.
Last week I also received a text I was not expecting. The other coach I coached cheer with texted me saying she would not be coaching next year. While her reasons are absolutely valid and I completely understand her choice, I am also sad for me. I really enjoyed coaching with her. I volunteered to coach with her because she needed the help and at the end of the season she told me I couldn't leave her. Now she is leaving me. Even though the season doesn't start until August, I am already on the search for another coach. I have also already started planning out and reworking cheers as well as looking for our half time dance. I figure if I start early I will be better prepared.
Besides the kids, the two things that have kept me most busy are my crocheting and breadmaking. As you know I learned how to crochet a few months ago. I have been doing a bunch of different projects here and there since. I have now completed 3 large blankets as gifts. I just started another. I also finished a green lap blanket/ baby doll blanket, requested by Sawyer. At some point I will maybe move on to trying to learn how to make something other than blankets but right now I really enjoy doing just that. I have at least 3 more planned already!
And then there's the breadmaking! We have talked about trying to make our own bread simply because it is so much better for you and doesn't have all kinds of junk in it that doesn't need to be there, but I was hesitant to start. Most of what I had seen was about sourdough bread and the idea of keeping a starter alive was a little daunting to me, mostly because I didn't really understand it. After a conversation with my sister-in-law, I decided to go ahead and make the jump and give it all a try. I used a recipe I saved to make 2 simple loaves of honey butter bread. WOW!! Not only was it delicious but it was super easy to make. So much easier than I was expecting. I've made it multiple times now and have played with what goes in it. Instead of honey butter, we have also had cinnamon swirl and garlic rosemary. None of it lasts long because the girls are huge fans.
I have also made bagels from sourdough discard that have been pretty popular. The girls also like to get in on the bread making and love to make their own mini loaves. I think next month we will try something new and see about making pasta!
What are some things you have tried making? Did it work out or was it not worth it?
Love this! Way to go B in persevering through the process. She is stronger than me.
Saturdays are my baking day and I just pulled my last thing out of the oven. My latest new recipe is sourdough discard crackers, so yummy!
I also want to make pasta! I actually received an attachment to make it with my kitchen aid, but I haven’t given it a try yet. Let me know when you do! Maybe it’ll inspire me to try it as well.
I love seeing your blankets! I’m looking forward to seeing what else you make! Let me know when you want to learn knitting ;)
